Upgrade to SharePoint MOSS 2007 or WSS3
SharePoint Products and Technologies provide enterprise-scale capabilities to meet business-critical needs like managing content and business processes, simplifying how people find and share information across boundaries, and enabling better informed decisions. Using the combined collaboration features of Windows SharePoint Services and Office SharePoint Server 2007, plus the design and customization capabilities of Office SharePoint Designer 2007, organizations can enable their users to create, manage, and easily build their own SharePoint sites, and enable these sites to be discovered throughout the organization.
The following is a list of the SharePoint Technologies hottest and newest feature sets and why you should consider upgrading:
- Content types. A content type defines the metadata for a document classification, including the number and types of columns for a document library list and the template for the class. You can include multiple content types within a single list or document library, and specify a content type within multiple sites.
- Integrated workflows. Attach business logic to WSS v3 lists and documents using Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer includes a graphic designer for adding workflows that don't require code. Once designed, you can initiate WSS workflows manually or automatically from a particular SharePoint event, such as the addition of a list item or library document.
- RSS feeds. Users can stay updated about new information in individual lists or libraries. The RSS feed is automatically added to the users Outlook 2007 client and will keep the user up to date on critical changes and information as they occur.
- Blogs. Allow site users to post information and solicit feedback in a structured environment.
- Wiki support. Let users create and syndicate their own Weblogs and wikis. Lists also generate RSS feeds and help users stay up to date with changes.
- Excel Services. Enable users to load, calculate, and display Excel workbooks on Office SharePoint Server 2007. Using Excel Services, you can easily reuse and share Excel workbooks on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 portals and dashboards.
- Business Data Catalog. Present an integrated view of data from disparate systems that store bits and pieces of your business’ data. This new feature allows users to bring together financial, client relationship, document management, and workflow systems into a single unified SharePoint view. Data is extracted from each of the source systems and converted into HTML so that this valuable information can be displayed on the page.
